About PCT!

Pinellas Community Tae Kwon Do is a martial arts school held at Pinellas Community Church. Every class at PCT is Practical, Fun, and Rewarding. Come to PCT and make new friends.  We opened our doors to the public in September of 2004 and have been growing ever since.  PCT practices the art and science of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do.  Our classes are for children six years and up, teenagers, and adults of all ages. Families are welcome.  Students are not judged or compared to other students, rather, they are judged upon their own skills and abilities.  The critieria is personal achievement and overall improvement.  Remember black belts come in all ages, shapes, and sizes.  Everyone regardless of age, gender, or size should have the right, if they so choose, to defend themselves.  We believe in developing the whole person and we accomplish this by teaching C.H.I.P.S. which stands for Courtesy, Humility, Integrity, Perseverance, and Self Control.  We challenge our students to be the best person they can be for themselves, their families, and friends.  We believe and practice the P.C.P. principle.  PCP stands for Praise, Correct, Praise.  Our world can be filled with negativity so we bring correction by first recognizing the good and praising it then we deal with the challenge our student is facing through correction and instruction followed by praise when the corrections have been made.  Our goal is to have every student no matter what their age leave feeling better than when they arrived.  Most times people are caught doing the wrong thing our goal is to catch people doing the right thing and praise them for it.

Proud Members of the USCDKA

At PCT we practice Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do.  Chung Do Kwan is one of the nine styles of taekwondo.  It is rooted in self defense and is known for it’s “bone crushing” blocks.
In 1942, a gentleman by the name of Won Kuk Yi (Lee) founded a unique method of teaching TaeKwonDo to a group of students rather than "one on one." He called his method of teaching "Chung Do Kwan," which can be translated several ways, however, GrandMaster Sell prefers to use the translation "a mighty wave smashing against a rocky shore," meaning that the power of water striking against any living of lifeless form on earth will win. Today, Chung Do Kwan is one of Korea 's strongest TaeKwonDo training systems.
In 1967, GrandMaster Edward B. Sell founded the American branch of the TaeKwonDo Chung Do Kwan Association, with the emphasis on strict discipline, shifting of body weight at the point of impact, and many other teaching techniques that would inspire the American student. In a very short time he realized that he had created the beginning of a "scale model" TaeKwonDo institute that would be responsible for setting high standards throughout the Eastern part of the United States .
